Raja Ampat

Located off the northwest tip of Bird's Head Peninsula on the island of New Guinea, in Indonesia's West Papua province, Raja Ampat, or the Four Kings, is an archipelago comprising over 1,500 small islands, cays, and shoals surrounding the four main islands of Misool, Salawati, Batanta, and Waigeo, and the smaller island of Kofiau.

Raja Ampat Regency is a new regency which separated from Sorong Regency in 2004. It encompasses more than 40,000 kmÂ² of land and sea, which also contains Cenderawasih Bay, the largest marine national park in Indonesia. It is a part of the newly named West Papua (province) of Indonesia which was formerly Irian Jaya. Some of the islands are the most northern pieces of land in the Australian continent.

Raja Ampat a series of four adjacent group of islands and is located in the western part of Kepala Burung ( Vogelkoop ) Papua Island . Administratively, Raja Ampat is under the Raja Ampat Regency, West Papua Province .The fourth group of the islands isÂ Â part of four largest islands, Pulau Waigeo , Misool Island , Salawati Island , and Island Batanta .

The history

Local communities believe that the origin word of "Raja Ampatâ�� was coming from the story of a woman who found four seven eggs, four grains of eggs which hatch into four princes who separated and each became a powerful king in Waigeo , Salawati , Misool Misool East and West . Meanwhile, three other eggs became a ghost, a woman, and a rock .

On its way, Raja Ampat region hasÂ been inhabited by aristocratic society and implementing custom of Maluku. In this system, a group of human society each village is led by a king. Since its establishment five Sultan Muslim in Maluku, Raja Ampat has claimed to be part of the Sultanate of Tidore . After the Sultanate of Tidore subject of the Netherlands and became part of Hindia Belanda.

The Community

In generally the community of Raja Ampat are working as traditional fisherman, They are a friendly and are welcome to the guests, especially when we bring them gift, that gift will be a "peace pipe indian" in Raja Ampat.
